Located in Stockbridge Edinburgh and established in 1987 by Sheila Dhariwal, Galerie Mirages was born out of Sheila’s travels throughout Asia and Africa, and particularly in India. Sheila was completely inspired by the beautiful hand embroidered traditional textiles and silver jewellery of the desert state of Rajasthan in North West India.
This led her to have the dream of bringing to Scotland the beautiful handmade crafts and jewellery she saw on her travels. Since that beginning in 1987, Sheila has now been joined in the business by her daughters Shanta and Asha, and the family business continues in the centuries old tradition of merchants traveling the world in search of beautiful objects.
From small beginnings the business has grown from strength to strength over the decades, and Galerie Mirages has established the reputation as being one of Scotland’s leading silver jewellery specialists. Tucked away at the end of a narrow passage on Raeburn Place, a small door opens out into a magical space, an oasis of colour, texture and creativity within the city.
Sheila and her daughters regularly travel throughout the world sourcing new products. Recent travels include India, Nepal, Thailand, Burma, Kenya, Morocco, Indonesia, Ethiopia, Poland, Turkey and Uzbekistan.
